Using Touch Align to Balance Existing Territories

Now that you know what criteria you will be using to create and balance your territories we can begin.

The first tool we will use to balance territories is the touch align tool. For basics on how to use the touch align tool please refer back to Touch Align section.

Step 1: Select the Touch Align Tool

Chapter 5 Aligning Territories Step 1

In the above image you'll notice that the pink territory has an index of only 385. This is way below the average of 1000 that it should be. The Blue territory north is above the average and so is the green territory south. We can use the touch align tool to reallocate some zip codes from both the green and blue and align them to pink in order to balance the territories.

Step 2: Select the Pink Territory with the Touch Align Tool.

Chapter 5 Aligning Territories Step 2

To select the pink territory you simply click anywhere in the pink territory when you have the touch align tool enabled and Click and Hold. You'll notice that the pink territory has now become outlined in a red border just like the tool has. This means that you have activated the tool.

Step 3: Re-Align Territories.

Chapter 5 Aligning Territories Step 3

To reallocate zip codes from the blue and green territories simply just drag the touch align tool over the areas you wish to give to the pink territory. Each change in zip assignment will automatically recalculate the index for each territory. This makes it very easy to balance all of the territories. In the above image you will see that the three territories have been balanced.

And that's it. It's that simple. If you have a touch screen PC you can even use your fingers to do the aligning for you instead of using the mouse.
