Creating Districts and Regions can only be created if you are using the Pro version of AlignMix. The Pro version allows you to create a hierarchy. By default, you have territories assigned to districts, and districts assigned to regions. These terms are set by default and can be changed by modifying the terms in the AlignMix options. If you only have two levels, then you need to make sure that second level term matches what your organization uses. If the second level is called Region, then you should go into the options and rename the second and third levels. Even if you are not using the third level you will want to rename it so that you do not have two regions appear as the second and third level. Simply change that third level to district or area in order to avoid any confusion.

If you are using the 2-week Pro trial, you will be able to create districts and regions but after the trial is over those assignments will be hidden and not included in any exports until you purchase the Pro version. AlignMix standard (Free) users can only create 10 sales territories and do not have the ability to create any hierarchy assignments.

The region assignment can be imported along with the zip to territory file. The zip to territory file is the basic import that will create your geographic sales territories. All you need for this import is a list of zip code in one column and the assigned sales territory in the second column. The import process will locate each zip code and assign that zip code to the territory that appears in the excel file. This sip to territory import can also import the district assignment and the region assignment at the same time. You simply need to include the Zip and territory data just like in the regular zip to territory export and then you need a district column that assigns each territory to a district and then a region column that will assign those districts to a region. After you drag those 4 data columns to the corresponding sections on the right and click next, the software will go row by row in your data set and create all of those assignments in the AlignMix map. When the import is finished you will see that all your sales territories will be shown on the first tab. You can then open a district tab to see the districts and then a region tab to view the region map.

If you do not have all your region assignments listed in an excel file you can create these assignments manually. In order to create any regions, you first need to have districts created in your file. The first way to create these assignments is to use the district properties tool. This is accessed right clicking on a district and then select district properties. The district properties view will appear on your screen. Here you will see the name, ID, assigned Sales district manager, and assigned region. If you have not created any regions, then the second drop-down will be unavailable. But if you have created some regions you can click this drop down and select the region you want this district assigned to. To create a brand-new region, you can click the plus button on the right side of that drop-down menu. Then type in the ID and name of the new region and click on OK two times. This will create the region assignment for this district.

While in district map view you can lasso multiple districts at one time using the district lasso tool. This tool works the same way that the territory lasso does when using the territory map view. Use the district lasso and lasso a couple districts. When you let go of the lasso a district query will appear. From here you click on next and will see a few options appear. You can now choose to assign all of these lassoed districts to the same new region or select the second option which will open up a drop-down menu (only if you already created regions) showing all the available regions for assignment. Click on finish and the assignment will be complete.

The district table view will also allow you to assign each district to a region. This process will only work if you have already created regions using the previously mentioned methods. In the table view click on the are that says region assignment. This will now show as drop-down menu shoeing every region that has been created in this file. Select the region and then click anywhere on the screen to confirm this assignment.

The final way to assign districts to regions is to use the touch align view while in region map view. This process operates the same way in the territory and district map view. In region map view enable the touch align tool. If you have zero regions created, then the whole map will appear as the same color. With the touch align tool click and hold on a district. You will see right away that the area will change color. This created your region. Now while holding down the left button on the mouse, move the cursor to capture another district. You will also see the number that is centered on the region go from 1 to 2. This means that you now have two districts assigned to this region. This label is set by default to show the span of control of this region (total number of districts assigned to a region). You can change the label to show the region name by using the configure layers tool.
