Adding Additional Sales Territory Labels

You can set additional sales territory labels via the configure layers tool. This will allow you to display any data set that you have imported into the software. If you wanted to see the total sales for all of your sales territories displayed on the map, then you need to watch the video above.

Customizing Data Formats

Using the data definition tool you can customize the formatting of any data set that you have imported into AlignMix. This will allow you to see the total sales for a sales territory or even show you the total population of a selected area. It all depends on what data sets you have imported into AlignMix.

Setting Up Your Data in Excel

AlignMix is fast and easy to use (once you get the data into the software… ). That is the main question we are asked. “How do I best set up my sales territory alignment data so I can easily import it into AlignMix?” That is why I created this most recent video post. This is the ideal excel set up for a fast import of all of your sales territory data.

Using International Maps

If you are interested in using AlignMix for countries other than the USA then make sure to first download AlignMix from the international page. Then in just a few clicks you’ll be able to access the international maps that come free with AlignMix.

Deleting Data Sets

Deleting data sets that you have imported into AlignMix is easy. In just a few clicks you can delete any data set that is in your sales territory file.

Using Territory Alignment Tools

AlignMix comes with several territory alignment tools that makes creating and redesigning sales territories really easy.

Locking Sales Territories

Using the lock sales territory tool you can make sure that no changes will be made to sales territories that have been completed. This tool is used to keep track of which sales territories are completed and which ones still need some adjustments.

Creating County Based Sales Territories

Using AlignMix you can create ZIP-Code or County Based Sales territories. In order to create a county based sales territory design you first need to make sure that you have FIPS codes for all of your counties. FIPS codes are 5 digit unique identifiers for each county. Without that you wouldn’t be able to locate counties accurately. Just think of how many “Orange” counties exist in the USA. This is why you need this 5 digit FIPS code for a county based territory alignment. Watch the video above to learn how to set up a county based AlignMix file and also how to import your county data.

Keeping Sales Territories Within State Borders

One of the most useful tricks that you need in your sales territory design arsenal is the state border alignment trick. If you select the touch align tool and then hold Ctrl on your keyboard, then the territory you are creating will not cross state borders. This is very useful when you are creating state based sales territories or have some sales territories that cannot cross state boundaries.

Clean Alignment Tool

Using the Clean Alignment Tool you can easily assign all the unassigned zip codes to nearby sales territories. The video above will show you how to use this tool step by step.

AlignMix Help Manual

There are two ways to access the AlignMix Help Manual. The first way is click on the “?” in the AlignMix Software. The second way is to scroll to the bottom of the AlignMix website and click on AlignMix Help Manual, or you can access it directly from this link.

Deleting Sales Accounts with the Lasso Tool

Removing accounts from your sales territory maps has become much easier in the newest feature update in AlignMix. You can now use the lasso tool to select an area on your map and then with two clicks you can delete the accounts that are found in that selected area

Deleting Sales Reps

Paste Data From Clipboard

Updating account and zip code assignments has just become even easier. The new paste from clipboard tool allows you to select a list of accounts or zip codes from excel and paste them directly into AlignMix. You can now assign this selection to an existing sales territory, assign them to a new territory, or even delete the pasted accounts. A similar feature was found in the now discontinued Microsoft MapPoint that allowed you to paste data directly into the territory mapping software.

Renaming Account Segments

In other sales territory mapping packages it’s a real hassle to edit imported account segments. That is not the case in AlignMix 2016. In just a few clicks you can rename any customer segment that has been imported into your AlignMix file. By watching the video above you will learn how to rename or edit your customer segments in less than one minute.

Sales District Touch Align

You can now use the patent pending touch align tool to create sales districts in the district map view. You simply click on an area on you map, and while still holding the button on your mouse down select the areas you want added to the new sales district. Then let go, and you’ve created a new sales district. It’s that easy. If you’ve used this touch align tool for creating sales territories then creating sales districts will be a breeze. For a detailed explanation of how to use this tool please watch the video above.

Sales District Borders

Many clients have requested that we integrate a district layer into the territory map view. So we did! In order to use this feature you first need to create districts (click here to learn how to create sales districts). Once you have districts created you can easily toggle on/off the district borders with one simple click. This new district border layer allows you to see every sales territory that you designed in addition to the borders of your sales districts on your sales territory map. To learn how to toggle this district border on and off just watch the video above.

Combining Sales Territories

Combing sales territories is very easy. You can simply use the lasso territories tool to select the territories and assign them to existing new territories. This is an important trick to remember because there may be a situation where you have a sales rep leave a territory and then this vacant territory needs to be absorbed into the one next door. The lasso territory tool makes this process very fast and easy.

District Map View

The new District Map View allows you to see all of your districts and territories on the same map. Using the patent pending touch align tool you can easily assign territories to other districts and see these changes instantly. This is the perfect view for district managers to see where their district borders lie and which territories belong to them in an easy to view layout.

Thematic Maps (Over Under)

The Over Under thematic view is the first of the Thematic maps to be included in the AlignMix territory mapping package. You can use any data set that you imported for this analysis. The software will then creat a new map view based on the selected data set and show you which territories are over, under, and within bounds (all of these options you can modify) of your set parameters. This view will then show you which territories are to heavy/light with sales or potential. Once these problem areas are located you can go ahead and correct them using the touch align or lasso tools.

Zip Code Search

You can now use the Zip Code Search tool to locate Zip Codes in your sales territory maps. Simply type [ctrl+f] to pull up the search box, then type in the zip you are searching for. The search tool will automatically zoom to the zip code you are searching for and center it on your screen. This is a very useful tool when you are confirming that zip codes have been properly assigned to the correct sales rep during you sales territory planning/realignment process.

Updating Zip Code Assignments

Updating Zip-code to territory assignments can be a pain, especially if there’s a lot of them and you have to search for each one individually and reassign them using the touch align tool. With this new update feature in AlignMix 2016 you can import updated zip code assignments in just a few clicks. Let’s say you just had a fine tuning session with all of your district managers and you now have a list of 400 zip-codes that need to be moved from one sales territory to the next. All you have to do is import this list into AlignMix and the software will make all of the changes for you automatically. The video above will show you how to do this amazing time saving process step by step.

Finding and Reassigning Accounts

Finding and reassigning accounts can be a real hassle without the proper tools. In this brief video you will learn how to copy and paste a list of accounts from Excel and paste them into AlignMix so that you can first find these accounts and then reassign them to another sales territory. This is one of the easiest ways that you can create account overrides, also known as special ownership accounts.

Exporting Maps and Data

One really cool feature that comes with AlignMix is the ability to export data and maps from the software. Using the batch export tool that is available in the Pro Version of AlignMix 2016 you can export:

  • Territory Maps
  • Territory Data
  • District Maps
  • District Data

Filtering Account and Territory Data

Filtering Accounts is a powerful tool that allows you to select an area on the map and then drill down into the selected area where you can display only certain accounts from certain territories. This comes in very handy if you need to move a particular segment from a geography in a sales territory and then easily reassign those accounts to another territory.

When you have selected an area to filter you can also:

  • Reassign these accounts to another territory
  • Create a brand new territory for these selected accounts
  • Unassigned the selected accounts
  • Assign these accounts to a territory

Keeping Sales Territories within a State Boundary

One of the most common questions we are asked, is how to keep a territory within a state boundary. AlignMix’s Touch Align tool has a cool feature which makes this really easy to accomplish.

Changing Sales Territory Colors

In this AlignMix 2016 feature update you will learn how to change the colors of your territories. You can even change the color scheme so that those who have a color impairment can use and see the entire sales territory alignment with ease.
